Cephalopods... Cephalopods... Cephalopods...

Oh my gosh. Where do I start with these magnificent creatures. I could dedicate an entire year I bet to Fun Facts about these mysteries of the underwater world.

There are around 800 species of cephalopods including Octopi, Squids, and Cuttlefish.

These 8 armed wonders are probably some of the smartest critters on earth. An octopus has one brain in each arm of their tentacles that can think independently and one central brain in its head that controls them all. If you would happen to put a little crab inside a closed mason jar for instance and put that in front of an octopus it would eventually figure out how to twist the lid off too get to the tasty crab inside.

An octopus mother watches over its eggs without leaving their side to guard them in order to ensure that her young have a fighting chance. She does this at the expense of her own life because by the time they hatch she has died of starvation. This means that the young have to learn everything on their own and do not have anyone to pass down the knowledge that the mother has learned through her life. Just think how smart those buggers would be if things were passed on from generation to generation. I think they would be ruling us by now.

Also lets not forget about their crazy insane camouflaging abilities. If you dont know that they can hide from almost anything watch this video.
